Poll: For First Time, Majority of Republicans Support Third Party
According to a Gallup poll released today, for the first time a majority of Republicans think that the U.S. needs a third political party.
The Hill has more:
A majority of Republicans said for the first time that a third party was needed in American politics, according to a Gallup poll released Monday.
Fifty-two percent of Republicans, and an even stronger number of Tea Party supporters, support the creation of a major, third political party, underscoring the occasional tensions between grassroots conservatives and the GOP establishment.
An overall majority of Americans, 52 percent, said that a third political party was needed; the most profound shift has come among Republicans.
The number of Republicans who said that a third political party was necessary was at an all-time high since Gallup first began tracking opinion on the issue in 2003. And while support for a third party has crept steadily upward in the GOP, for the first time, it represents a majority opinion.
Supporters of the Tea Party are even more likely to back a third party, the poll found. Sixty percent of Tea Party supporters back a third party, while 32 percent say the existing two parties are adequate. By contrast, 47 percent of Tea Party opponents said the bipartisan system is adequate, and 44 percent favored a third party.
Who might lead this third party? Well, in the past, Sarah Palin has voiced her support for a third party. “If they start straying, then why not a third party?”
This does not surprise me as I too feel like washing my hands of the Republican party. We feel lied to again. Both Dems and Republicans LIE. They are part of the problem not the solution. Yes, it is time for us to form a third party. Though I do not support Sarah Palin. I think she might be a fun person to hang out with, but I don’t think she has what it takes to be President. I don’t think Obama has the experience either and with Palin it would be the same as with Obama. Even though they don’t believe the exact same thing, they both lack experience and it would continue to be one disaster after another.
I was in the Green Party before I returned home to the Republican party in 2010. I helped the Green party candidates. It is a lot of hard work being part of a third party and getting your candidates to get their names on the ballot, to be part of the debates, and to get their message out to the people. It can be done. Every election in AZ the Green Party has more people as candidates on the ballot, included in the debates, and getting our message out there. The woman candidate I helped was able to speak at the Sun Lakes Democrat club. You have to be creative.
Americans above all else want a honest person of courage, strength, honor, and wisdom to be their leader. People will not follow a leader who LIES( LIKE OBAMA). Character does manner in a LEADER.
Yes, it might mean that Democrats win if we bail on the Republican Party, but people are sick and tired of the LIES AND CORRUPTION NOT ONLY WITHIN OUR GOVERNMENT, BUT ALSO IN THE TWO POLITICAL PARTIES. The best thing for America is Conservatives like me formed a third party and if Progressives joined the Green Party and build on their solid foundation.
The question is do the AMERICAN PEOPLE HAVE THE COURAGE TO WALK AWAY FROM BOTH THE DEMOCRAT AND REPUBLICAN PARTIES? WILL THEY MAKE OUR LEADERS GIVE AN ACCOUNTING FOR EVERY SINGLE LIE THEY TOLD, BRIBE THEY TOOK, AND COURAGE THEY LACK TO DO WHAT IS BEST FOR AMERICA AND NOT FOR THEIR OWN POCKET BOOKS? OR WILL THE PEOPLE CONTINUE TO BE ZOMBIES WHO DON’T CARE THAT THEY ARE BEING LIED TO?
