Obama: ‘Scared’ Americans Aren’t Thinking ‘Clearly’
In his remarks at a Democratic fundraiser in Massachusetts Saturday evening, President Barack Obama said that Americans’ fear and frustration” are to blame for an intensely competitive midterm election season favoring Republican candidates.
“Part of the reason that our politics seems so tough right now and facts and science and argument does not seem to be winning the day all the time is because we‘re hardwired not to always think clearly when we’re scared,” Obama said Saturday evening in remarks at a small Democratic fundraiser Saturday evening. “And the country’s scared.”
Obama told the several dozen donors that he was offering them his “view from the Oval Office.” According to Politico, Obama blamed the economic downturn for Americans’ inability to “think clearly” and said the burden is on Democrats “to break through the fear and the frustration people are feeling.”
“You can respond in a couple of ways to a trauma like this,” Obama said, referring to the economy. “One is to pull back, retrench and respond to your fears by pushing away challenges, looking backwards. Another is to say we can meet these challenges and we are going to move forward. And that’s what this election is about.”
In similar remarks earlier in the day, Obama blamed Republicans for being uncooperative, saying the party decided to “ride people’s anger and frustration all the way to the ballot box,” and predicted more partisanship and gridlock next year. “I don’t anticipate that getting better next year,” he said. “I anticipate that getting worse.”
The president also campaigned in Ohio this weekend with a similar message:

We are angry because we the people can’t believe anything you or your fellow politicans say. LIES, LIES, LIES IS ALL WE GET FROM YOU AND THE REST OF OUR GOVERNMENT.
We are angry because we have a President who refuses to look in the mirror and take responsiblity for his part in the valid reasons why americans don’t trust their President and government. All you can do is blame BUSH, REPUBLICANS, CATHOLICS/CHRISTIANS, CONSERVATIVES, AND ANYONE ELSE WHO DOESN’T BELIEVE YOU ARE QUALIFIED TO BE PRESIDENT.
I didn’t vote for you because you didn’t earn my vote or respect. I am not some puppet that you can deceive into believing your cute little slogans that don’t mean a hill of beans. YOU LIED BEFORE YOU GOT THE DEMOCRATIC NOMINATION AND ARE CONTINUE TO LIE THIS VERY DAY. I WONDER WHY YOUR NOSE ISN’T ALL THE WAY TO CHINA WITH ALL THE LIES YOU TELL.

YOU DON’T TELL THEM TO VOTE FOR WHAT IS BEST FOR AMERICAN AND ALL AMERICANS BUT ONLY WHAT IS BEST FOR BLACKS. It was YOU who brought race into the election. YOU MAKE IT VERY CLEAR THAT YOU ONLY CARE ABOUT BLACK AMERICANS AND THE REST OF IS CAN GO TO HELL AS FAR AS YOU ARE CONCERNED. You and I know if you were a White man who told Whites to only vote for what is in the best interest of whites you would be called a racist. Yet, you as a black man can be a Black Nationalist and only focus on what is best for Blacks and the media is silent, because after all we have a DOJ who doesn’t believe that Whites deserve equal rights in this country and that the only people who deserve protection under the Law is Blacks and other people of color. YOU BRING OUT THE WORST IN AMERICANS.
