Poll: Many Obama 2008 Supporters Are Defecting to GOP
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama’s winning coalition from 2008 has crumbled and his core backers are dispirited. It‘s now Republicans who stand to benefit from an electorate that’s again craving change.
Nearly two years after putting Obama in the White House, one-quarter of those who voted for the Democrat are defecting to the GOP or considering voting against the party in power this fall. An Associated Press-Knowledge Networks poll released two weeks before Obama’s first midterm elections found that just half of them say they definitely will show up Nov. 2.
In a reflection of broad dissatisfaction with politics, just as many people who backed Republican presidential nominee John McCain are either supporting Democrats now or still considering how to vote. McCain voters are far more motivated to vote, however.
I was walking my dog Benji this morning and talked to two neighbors about the election. One is with the Republicans and the other is a Independent with Progressive views. All three of us are going to vote or in a couple of cases they voted early.
The Independent Party member understands like I do that BOTH POLITICAL PARTIES LIE. Saying that I think he is going to vote Democrat because he feels they are the lesser of two evils.
The Republican Party member feels like I do that it is a dangerous situation when you have Americans who don’t trust a word our President or Congress says to us. Who know what it means when the American people CAN’T TRUST THEIR OWN GOVERNMENT. Like me he isn’t sure the Republicans have learned their lesson and that nothing will really change because BOTH POLITICAL PARTIES ARE CORRUPTED AND ARE A BIG PART OF THE PROBLEM. He will vote Republican.
I the Green Party member am planning to vote Republican. I feel that Republicans are a little more honest then Democrats who LIE about everything. The Republicans are the lesser of two evils to me.
So in my little neighborhood poll, we have 2 people voting for Republicans and 1 voting for Democrats.
We all agree that we are living in dangerous times. It is dangerous when you have Americans NOT TRUSTING ANYTHING THEIR PRESIDENT SAYS. WHO THINK HE IS LYING TO THEM. WHO THINK THAT THE CONGRESS IS FULL OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE NO HONOR OR MORAL CHARACTER BECAUSE THEY LIE TOO.
I never thought this political daughter of the American Revolution would feel the way I do, but maybe the best thing is if we scrap the lying government we have now and start over again? We need to make all those in power give an accounting for EVERY SINGLE LIE THEY HAVE TOLD AND CONTINUE TO TELL. We need to make both the Democrat and Republican Parties give an accounting for EVERY SINGLE LIE THEY HAVE TOLD AND CONTINUE TO TELL IN THEIR CAMPAIGN ADS.
I don’t agree with White Nationalism because I think it is wrong to HATE people based on race, religion, or political view. Their attitude toward Jews is wrong in my eyes and I as a Catholic will not support them on that issue. Yet, I wonder if it is to late to fix the corruption in our political system or if we have to throw the whole thing out and start over again?
I don’t agree with Progressives because I think it is wrong to HATE people who think differently then you and don’t believe and walk 100% lockstep with you. Progressives TEND TO BRAND ANYONE WHO DISAGREES WITH WHAT PROGRESSIVES DECLARE TO BE POLITICAL CORRIECT AS EVIL RACISTS, CRAZY CRACKPOTS, AND STUPID REDNECKS. THE HATE SPEWS FROM THEIR MOUTHS LIKE IT SPEWS FROM WHITE NATIONALISTS. Therefore always getting back to the same question of WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PROGRESSIVES AND WHITE NATIONALISTS WHEN THEY BOTH HATE OTHERS? Still waiting for an answer so that question is still running through my mind.
Yet, like all things Progressives have some TRUTH on their side. Corporations are not HUMAN BEINGS and should not be given the same rights as human beings.
We need to open up the playing field to third party candidates and make it possible for them to WIN. They are our best and only hope for saving this country. Both the Democrats and Republicans are corrupted and will never have the moral courage to do the right thing. They only care about themselves and their own personal wealth and power. They are both good at talking the talk that people want to hear but they get an F for failing to walk the walk. They CONTINUE TO LIE TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE AND THAT ONLY ADDS TO THE DISTRUST.
ONCE DISTRUST IS WIDESPREAD BECAUSE OF ALL THE LIES, THEN LOYALITY SLIPS AS WHO IS GOING TO BE LOYAL TO A GOVERNMENT WHO LIES TO THEM?
THE QUESTION IS HOW DOES THE GOVERNMENT REGAIN THE TRUST AND LOYALITY OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE? It is not by continuing to lie and having a media who continues to LIE and COVER UP THE LIES OF THE PRESIDENT AND THOSE IN POWER. THEY DON’T REGAIN THE TRUST AND LOYALITY BY WIRE TAPPING AND SPYING ON THEIR OWN CITIZENS. THEY DON’T EARN RESPECT BY BLAMING OTHERS AND NOT LOOKING AT THE MIRROR TO ADMITTING THAT THE PROBLEM LIES WITH THEM AND NOT THE PEOPLE.
Frankly, I don’t think people in power have the moral courage to do the right thing. I think they are going to continue to generalize, lie, and demigod. They are going to continue to parot the party line and continue the COVER UP of those LIES and WRONG DOING.
So the result will be a growing number of Americans who don’t respect or trust our President or Government.
