Congresswoman: Taxpayers Have an ‘Obligation’ to Fund Abortions
Rep. Jan Schakowsky, D-Ill., not only believes that women should be able to choose whether or not to terminate a pregnancy, but also favors a full repeal of existing federal policy which limits taxpayer funding for abortions. According to the Illinois Democrat, “there’s no evidence” that increasing access to abortion services encourages people to get abortions.
CNSNews.com‘s Nichola Ballasy caught up with the congresswoman today during an event on Capitol Hill sponsored by the Center for Reproductive Freedom to ask her about call for the repeal of the Hyde Amendment. When asked about whether access to abortion may encourage more women to take the drastic step, Rep. Schakowsky replied, “No, there’s no evidence of that around the world, where access to abortion is more available but somehow women are more inclined to get one.”
“What happens is that women who don’t have access resort, as we heard today, to very dangerous, self-inflicted kinds of things in order to end, terminate the pregnancy,” she said. “And so, you know, we go back to back alley abortions. We go back to coat hangers. And, I mean, is that what we want?”
“Women who are desperate enough to do that to themselves are going to somehow – going to try to abort that pregnancy. We don’t want to do that. We don’t want to put women at greater risk.”
This is one example of why I as a Catholic women reject the Democratic Party and the Progressive view point. Abortion is EVIL and is MURDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is a reason why our church has taken the stand that it takes on abortion. There is a reason why we Catholics are told not to support or vote for anyone who votes for abortion and public funding of abortion. I don’t want my tax payer money going to abortion. I do not want my tax payer money going toward seeing more young teens being forced to have an abortion. Don’t tell me it doesn’t happen because it does. It happen to me.
I wanted adoption but I was forced to murder my own child. One does not recover emotionally and I still grieve for the loss of my child. I think how old my child would be and how I might be a grandmother right now, if I had been allowed to have my baby. I would have been able to give my child the gift of life if abortion hadn’t been legal and my parents could force me to have an abortion.

I also know because I REFUSE to support abortion that I can never be a PROGRESSIVE DEMOCRAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! To them I am an evil Catholic Racist who is anti women because I would pray with other Catholics for the life of the unborn child.
We must all choose what is the most important thing to us. For me the most important thing is my Catholic faith. Others choose being a good Progressive Democrat as more important then their Catholic faith. Others think being a good White Nationalist is more important then their Catholic faith. I reject both because they both go against the teachings of the Catholic church and must be rejected if I want to be a Catholic in good standing.
What happen to my free choice? I didn’t have free choice that PROGRESSIVE DEMOCRATS always talk about. I was forced against my will to have an abortion by my parents when I was underage. NO, to them I am an evil racist because I oppose abortion on demand and public funding for abortion. There are a lot of women who are forced and pressured to have an abortion that they really do not want. Do they ever talk about the health risks of an abortion? NO, they remain silent on the many deaths that happen because of an legal abortion. Do they talk about the emotional damage that happens to the women? NO, they make it seem like it is a good thing. Yet, women who have had one will tell you first hand that it is HELL on earth.
I hope this Congresswoman will be defeated. If she is a Catholic she needs to repent of her position regarding abortion. One can’t be a good Catholic and support abortion and vote for those who feel the way this woman feels. They can if their Catholic faith means very little to them and their heart has chosen their Democratic party over their Catholic faith so they are CINO(Catholics in name only) and not true practicing Catholics who try and live by the teachings of the Catholic church. They are the Catholics who think they can tell the Pope and the Church what to believe instead of realizing it is the POPE and the CATHOLIC CHURCH who tells us what to believe as Catholics.
To those parents who find they have a teen daughter who is going to have a baby, DO NOT FORCE HER TO HAVE AN ABORTION. It not only will destroy your grandchild but your daughter as well who has to live with the effects of having an abortion she didn’t want. IF she wants adoption encourage her. If you force her to KILL her child she will hold anger toward you for all the days of her life. She will still love you, but she will have anger in her heart. DO NOT MAKE HER CHOOSE BETWEEN HER CHILD AND HER PARENTS WHO SHE DOES LOVE.
To the young men who want to force the girl to have an abortion because you don’t want the child, you need to step up to the plate and help her find a solution for all of you. If she wants adoption then encourage and support her. If she wants the child then you need to help support that child and be a father.
ABORTION SHOULD NOT BE USED AS A FORM OF BIRTH CONTROL WHICH IT IS NOW IN THIS COUNTRY AND HAS BEEN SINCE IT HAS BECOME LEGAL.
So Progressives feel free to write what a terrible evil racist I am. I am used to being called racist and it doesn’t bother me. It is something I wear with pride now, because we live in a society where those of us who live and hold traditonal values are considered racist. My Catholic faith comes first over political view. God come first over everything.
I hold love in my heart and I reject both White Nationalism and the Progressive view point. Both spew hate in their hearts toward those who are different then them. Hate is not from God and I choose to be with people who hold love in their heart. So I always get back to the question of what is the difference between White Nationalists and Progressives who both hate those who are different and twist things to make it look like they are telling the truth when in fact it is a distortion of the truth. Look at what Alan Grayson is doing with his commerical that is still running even after he admited that he twisted the truth. He admits it is a lie, but keeps running it. He is still dishonest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So because of his lack of honor I go from being someone who wished him well to someone who hopes he is defeated because he has proven he is just another lying man who has no HONOR.
While WN twist and distort the truth about Jews, we have Progressives like Alan Grayson who twist and distort the truth about Christians and Conservatives. I reject both political views.
I may be a lot of things in this life, but one of the things that I admire about myself is that I try my best to follow the teachings of Jesus and the Catholic church. I believe in HONESTY and DISLIKE VERY STRONGLY those who LIE, CHEAT, and put their political view over what is best for all in the country. Is Alan Grayson so afraid of loosing his POWER that he has to LIE about the man running against him. I know PROGRESSIVES WILL JUSTIFY HIS ACTIONS, instead of standing up to him. I think that is one reason why I feel so strongly that the answers to what is needed to solve the problems is NOT GOING TO COME FROM PROGRESSIVES ANYMORE THEN FROM WHITE NATIONALISTS.
Where are HONEST Americans to go? We have the Democrat party that is useless. We have the Republican Party that hasn’t learned their lesson and is just as useless as Democrats. I am in the Green Party because of their environmental platform but they are Progressive and I am still finding out where I as a moderate can go.
Just read an article that Obama and the FBI are now targeting those of us who are pro life. We are going to be branded as evil terriorists because we would dare as Catholics to pray a rosary for the life of the unborn child. We are not violent but are praying. Oh, that is right to Progressive Democrats PRAYING A ROSARY IS AN ACT OF VIOLENCE.
I know that CINO(Catholics in name only) will not speak up but will continue to bash Catholic/Christians because we protest the MURDER of the unborn child. Oh how I pray that they will return to the church and join the fight for the right for the unborn child to be born into this world. Yet, their political party is more important then standing up and fighting for life. They like to say we pro life Catholics are hyprocrits because many of them support the death penatlity. I oppose the death penality because I believe God gives us life and he is the one who takes life. It shouldn’t be up to the state to decide who lives and dies. I believe as Catholics we must fight for all life.
I know most of the Greens are pro abortion so I don’t know how long I will be in the Green Party, but the woman that I have helped with her campaign this election and I know that even though we disagree on the issues that the environment is the main issue for us and on that issue we are on the same page.
I believe that in the UK, that I will be able to find a political party that one is not made to feel like an evil terriorist because they are pro-life and believe in the Catholic teachings. I just don’t think the UK is as far gone as the USA.
I strongly, STRONGLY disagree with tax payer-funded abortion. It’s the individual’s responsibility. You make the choice to sleep with someone, you know there are risks, now you have to take responsibility for your actions. Too bad if no one likes it.
I am sorry this happened to you. If your pregnancy would have brought shame upon your family, you could have just gone to live elsewhere and given the baby up for adoption. It seems this wasn’t a choice for you.
Abortion should only be used as a very last resort, such as cases of rape or if the health of the fetus or mother is in danger. Even then, I find it tragic.
On the other end of the spectrum, there are many anti-abortionists who think women get abortions out of selfishness, because it gets in the way of some “career” (sorry, a paper-pusher, bank teller, or Target cashier doesn’t count as a “career”), and that men are falling all over themselves to be fathers and we’re the bad ones who don’t want babies. I wouldn’t doubt it if they actually thought women throw parties and celebrate after having an abortion. According to some extensive research and talking to people I’ve done on this subject, more people who’ve had abortions were actually coerced into having them, whether by lovers or family members. There even have been husbands that have convinced their pregnant wives to do it because they couldn’t afford another kid, or it would put a dent in their lifestyle. Family members of unmarried women would convince them because a child out of wedlock would bring shame to their family.
Being against abortion is not anti-women. The very procedure of abortion is dangerous to a woman’s body, how “pro-woman” is that?
This issue is just part of a bigger problem we have in society. The problem with accountability for your own actions and wanting a quick and easy solution, as opposed to having to really think about actions and consequences. We want everything easy, and if we’re not satisfied, we just want to throw it away.
Thank you for your comment my friend. We agree. Many of the women I have talked to were forced or pressured to have an abortion that they didn’t really want. They are told there is no danger nor ill effect when the truth is it is very dangerous and emotionally they are never the same. Priests who have helped women who have had abortions will tell you that they suffer greatly because they know that they killed their child.
I wonder how these women like this Congresswoman and NOW members can sleep at night knowing that they are encouraging young women to have abortions and act like it is nothing more then getting rid of a growth. Oh, that is right to them it isn’t a baby until it is brought home from the hospital because they fight for late term and partical birth abortions like our President who supports all abortions too. He too doesn’t think the unborn child has a right to be born or that young teen moms shouldn’t be pushed, forced, or pressured into abortions because he supports one of the groups who pushes abortions on teen moms. That is why I as a Catholic woman can not support Progressive Democrats who think any of us Pro life Catholics who pray our rosary for the unborn are evil racist terriorists who are crazy for following the teachings of Jesus and the Catholic Church which teach us to respect all life from conception to death. I see the way they attack and gain up on pro life Democrats and see to drive them out of the party and government because after all abortion on demand and funded by tax payers is a right they must fight for as Democrats.
If other Catholics want to leave their faith at the door so that they can justify in their own mind why they stay with a political party who is part of the reason we have such a problem with teen moms getting abortions for birth control then it is on them.CINO(Catholics in name only) I pray will return to the faith and realize that abortion is an evil the way it is used now as birth control. They should be fighting for all life from conception to death. If they do oppose abortion in their own personal life they don’t publically oppose it within their Progressive Democrat Party. They either keep silent or tote the party line like little robots. Repeating what told to believe without question. I am not like that.
My Catholic faith is more important than any political party. Maybe some would say that I am a robot for the Catholic faith? I am willing to consider that question as the Pope is head of the Catholic church and he is the one who tells us what to believe as Catholics. There are things that we might disagree with, but as Catholics we practice what the Pope as head of the church believes is best for the Catholic Church. I give him respect as head of the church. I know I don’t tell the Pope what to do as head of the church, but it is the Pope who tells us as Catholics what to believe and do as Catholics.
We live in a world where those of us who practice and try our best to live by our Catholic faith are branded as evil racist terriorists and crazy loons because we do our best to follow the teachings of Christ and his church. A lot of us vote Republican because they have a pro life platform. They aren’t Republican first but Catholics first who find that in today’s world that they can still vote for the Republican candidates and can continue on as Catholics in good standing, whereas to vote for the Democrat means they are breaking a rule of the church and therefore from that day on become CINO. Our Bishop is very clear on this. If I as a Catholic want to remain in good standing with the Catholic church I can’t vote for any Democrat because of their stand on abortion. They are pro abortion and accuse anyone of opposing abortion as anti women, etc. If the Republicans were to change and say abortion is a right as Democrats then they would rightly loose all the pro life Catholic voters. Our faith comes before political party.

Today is the feast day of the little flower. St. Therese is one of the saints I love alot. I have a little statue of her and a prayer she wrote. She really loved the Lord with all her heart. She was a humble soul.
I don’t know what the future holds for me, but the abortion is a big part of the PTSD. I can still get emotional over it. I also know that someday I will see my little one when I die. She would have been born Sept. 1975 so she would have been 35. I might be a grandmother if my child had been allowed to live. If abortion hadn’t been legal my parents would not have forced me to have an abortion. My dad would have had to accept my going away and having the baby and then giving it up for adoption. I will never support abortion!!!!!! I also know that because of that I will never be accepted by Progressive Democrats and they will continue to hate me and think all kinds of evil about me.
I am 52 years old. Maybe someday I will heal from the PTSD. I haven’t totally given up the idea of entering the convent. I was going to be a nun but decided against it because I felt God wanted me to marry and have a family. That doesn’t seem to be his will so I may when my mom dies seek an order of nuns who accept older women. Right now, I need to stay here because my mom needs help. As much as we fight and disagree about everything she is my mom. I have thought about entering the convent in France or the UK. I really want out of the States. I need a long vacation from America. I am half Brit and my heart has always been in the UK. I need to go home and spend some time there. I want to go to Scotland.
Whatever my future holds I will continue to allow Jesus to be Lord of my life.

First off, I don’t think I am a Liberal. Even though the political test I took said I was a Moderate Liberal. Liberals believe in abortion and I as a Catholic must condemn it. To be honest with you, I don’t know where I am politically at this point. I know I am not a White Nationalist and I know I am not a Liberal.
You have to understand that for the first time in my life I am having to find out for myself what I believe. The years I was a White Nationalist I was told what to believe or else. There was no taking the time and finding out what I believe. It was Jeff telling me what he believed and when I asked for more proof because what he said the Bible said and the WN stuff he gave me as proof of what he was saying didn’t say to me what he told me it said. To support Abortion and to vote for candidates and be members of a party that support abortion is a mortal sin and can keep you from receiving Holy Communion. I don’t believe in ‘evil’ only choices, so whether you do it or not is not for me to pass judgement. As a man I cannot even imagine the thoughts of a woman who considers abortion, but I would support any woman who has made an informed free choice.

Agree Chrisy. I don’t see how having a doctor pull our children out of our bodies with forceps after smashing in the head or burning the body with chemicals is empowering to women.

Abortion is not enpowering to women. It is murder of the unborn child in the womb and in my eyes is evil. There are sins that are less evil then abortion.
I understand why our Bishop in Phoenix takes such a strong stand on the issue. He is my Bishop and because my Catholic faith is so important I try and obey. Abortion is one reason why I can never be a Democrat. As long as they have pro abortion on their platform, the Democrats will not have this Catholic woman in their ranks.
