Last Month Was the Hottest June Recorded Worldwide, Figures Show

US government climate data suggests 2010 on course to be warmest year since records began

Last month was the hottest June ever recorded worldwide and the fourth consecutive month that the combined global land and sea temperature records have been broken, according to the US government’s climate data centre.

The figures released last night by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) suggest that 2010 is now on course to be the warmest year since records began in 1880.

The trend to a warmer world is now incontrovertible. According to NOAA, June was the 304th consecutive month with a combined global land and surface temperature above the 20th-century average. The last month with below-average temperatures was February 1985. Each of the 10 warmest average global temperatures recorded since 1880 have occurred in the last 15 years with the previous warmest first half of a year in 1998.

Temperature anomalies included Spain, which experienced its coolest June temperature since 1997, and Guizhou in southern China, which had its coolest June on record. According to Beijing Climate Center, Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang, and Jilin experienced their warmest June since their records began in 1951.

Scientists expressed surprise that the June land surface temperature exceeded the previous record by 0.11C (0.20F). “This large difference over land contributed strongly to the overall global land and ocean temperature anomaly”, said John Leslie, a spokesman for NOAA.

Seperate satellite data from the US National Snow and Ice Data Center shows that the extent of sea ice in the Arctic was at its lowest for any June since satellite records started in 1979. The icy skin over the Arctic Ocean grows each winter and shrinks in summer, reaching its yearly low point in September. The monthly average for June 2010 was 10.87 km sq. The ice was declining an average of 88,000 sq km per day in June.

In a further sign of a warming world, the Jakobshavn Isbrae glacier, one of the largest in Greenland, lost a 2.7-square mile chunk of ice between 6-7 July – one of the largest single losses to a glacier ever recorded.

I had heard this on the news and tried to talk to my mom about this subject, but like most things between us it didn’t go to well. I just don’t understand how people can deny Climate Change or if they believe it is happening don’t take it seriously enough to actually try to do something about it. Those who do are made fun of and mocked. Why is that?

I have said this before that Al Gore’s first book was one of the books that I read that awaken me from the evil spill I was under. His book and another book was a lifeline,so I thought it was sad when people mocked him and the other environmentalists and Greens for caring enough about the planet to actually try and get people to do something and not just talk about doing something but not even trying. That is one of the problems with our federal government today; they talk the talk but don’t walk the walk. I know I don’t respect people who do that in real life, so is it any wonder I have a hard time trusting my government who seems to do that?

We all have a destiny. Some of us will have a political destiny and others will have a different destiny. Some will have a destiny of being good and others evil. We must embrace our destiny whatever it is and not be afraid, but find the courage to do what we know we must do.

People like to attack America and make it seem like we are the evil empire in the world. Yet, the truth is that what made us a great nation is still inside those of us who are old enough to remember when this nation was a great nation because we were a moral nation. We boomers remember when the United States was a beacon of light and hope in the world. I believe that if we awaken from the evil spill that we are living under, and find the courage to fight for what is right in the world and against the evil in the world, that like the phoenix who rises from the ashes we can still WIN and our children inherit a nation that is free and brave. That they can be proud of us for loving them enough to fight to save this country we were taught as kids to love. Someone has to love this country enough to pick up the torch of lady liberty and the sword of our Fathers and fight the evil in the world that wants to destroy the United States and Israel off the face of the earth. That same message of hate is being preached today. Will our generation have the courage and will to fight as our fathers fought Hitler and his message of hate? I believe we can. It won’t be easy, but we have to at least try.

I think I am getting used to the new medicine because my stomach isn’t as upset as it has been. It is another hot one in Phoenix (115) My friend and I both miss the Northeast. She misses New York and I miss Massachusetts. Right now we are stuck here for a bit, so you just have to find happiness inside yourself so that you can be happy anywhere you find yourself. I have a/c so as long as I stay inside I am fine.

I was reading my Catholic devotional last night and it talked about truth how we Catholics must be willing to stand for truth, even if it means we have to admit to ourselves our faults. That isn’t always easy to do. I have made many mistakes in this life, but I have always tried to learn from them and be an example to others in showing them how to turn our lemons into lemonaide. To me a real leader leads by example and showing others the way to go by our actions and not just words.
