Stop the right-wing from blocking Obama’s Attorney General

I got this from my Green Party Email group.

Turning hope into action: Standing up to torture
They want to stop Obama from investigating torture.

CREDO rejects Sen. Cornyn‘s pro-torture stance. Stop conservatives in
the Senate from blocking the nomination of Eric Holder for Attorney
General
and holding up President Obama’s agenda.

This is a time of major transition in America — with a new president
and a more progressive Congress, it is now possible for us to enact
the kind of changes we could only dream about for the last eight
years.

But change won’t just happen. Without our vigilance, a conservative
minority will block the most progressive elements of President
Obama’s agenda.

Last December, we sent out a survey asking you what issues we should
prioritize in 2009. Your overwhelming top five choices were
rebuilding the economy, ending the war, pursuing alternative energy,
providing health care for all Americans, and restoring the
Constitution.

We’re ready to do everything we can to move forward on these
important issues — but some right-wing obstructionists will be
fighting back just as hard.
One of the first fights will be around President Obama’s moves to
restore the constitution. Our featured action this week targets
Senator John Cornyn (R-TX). Cornyn is leading the charge to block the
confirmation of Eric Holder, President Obama’s Attorney General
nominee
. His rationale? Sen. Cornyn objects to the fact that Holder
will not rule out prosecuting Bush Administration officials for
enaging in illegal torture.

Some of the most important votes of this Congress will be more under
the radar — particularly those votes taking place at the Committee or
Subcommittee level. Over the coming months, we’ll be sure to e-mail
you when your representative or one of your senators has an upcoming
committee vote that could make a big difference. (We’re also beefing
up our mobile activism, but I’ll tell you more about that next week.)

The e-mails will likely be short and sweet, and tell you whether the
bill or amendment or official in question is:

or

November 4th was only the beginning. Our work is needed now more than
ever to ensure right-wing obstructionists don’t stand in the way of
President Obama’s progressive agenda.

Click here to tell Sen. Cornyn to stand up for justice, not torture —
and end his efforts to block Eric holder’s nomination as the next
Attorney General.
