I went to mass this morning. I went to mass with a nice woman who I consider a friend. It was really great.
At mass today they passed out post cards to our elected officials for us to fill out and then the church will send opposing the freedom of choice act. My friend and I filled them out as was expected of us.
At lunch after mass we were talking and I said I wonder if the church has crossed the line between seperation between church and state; having us fill out the post cards in mass to our elelcted officials to oppose the Freedom of Choice Act in Congress.
The way the priest explained the act that it would mean all the Catholic Hospitals would close down, and force Catholic doctors and nurses to perform partical birth abortions and he explained what it was, and it is terrible; made everyone want to fill out the post card and turn it in so the church could send them. He said every Catholic church in the United States was doing th is today. I wonder if they too got the people who attended mass to sign a card and turn it in.
Before anyone accuses me of being pro-abortion I am not. I am just wondering if it is crossing the line between seperation between church and state when we go to mass and we are told to fill out these post cards to our elected officals to urge them to oppose a piece of Legislation that is in Congress? I don’t have a problem with all of us Catholics on our own calling, emailing, or sending letters to our elected officials, I just wonder if the church should be the one behind the drive to get us to sign and they mail it for us?
I don’t think it is wrong to ask that we as a church ask ourselves if what we are doing is crossing the line. We are Catholics and what we believe is going to effect all the other aspects of our lives. I guess the problem I had is that during mass we are filling out these post cards for the church to send to our elected officals. Even if someone didn’t believe in opposing this Bill, how many of them filled out the post cards anyway, because they felt pressure to be a good Catholic and not have all the eyes of the church stare at them?
Of course I want to live by good Christian Catholic morals, but shouldn’t it be something we live because it is in our heart to choose to live our faith? If we force people to live by our Catholic Values when they are not Catholic is that really what Christ would have us do? I know we all have a purpose and that God has a plan for all of us, but is putting pressure on people to live a certain way when they are not of the faith, living how Christ would have us live?
I am just wondering if other Catholics who had the postcards in Mass today felt about it. Am I the only one who is a little uneasy about it?
God Bless
Chrisy
If you are stupid enough to REMAIN catholic, then please don’t bother to ask questions to which you should already know the answers. Do you also still believe the pedophile priests actually turn bread and wine into the body of Christ ??????
Dear Jean,
Yes, I am a Catholic. This is my journal and if I want to post my feelings than I will do it. No one is forcing a gun to your head to read my journal blog are they?
There are Catholic Priests who are wonderful men who reflect and live their calling to the best of their ability. Just because a few were guilty of committing crimes does not mean the whole Catholic Priesthood is guilty.
Yes, I do believe that the Holy Communion that we as Catholics receive in mass is the body and Blood of Christ. That belief is what makes us different than other Christians.
I guess you are one of those kind of people who think Catholics do no good in the world. You forget about all the good work we do with Catholic Charities. You forget about the Catholic schools that we have to educate children or the Catholic hospitals that help the sick.
