The problems faced by the US in its transition from a fossil fuel base to renewable energy are similar to the ones faced here in Australia. We live in large houses spread far apart, public transport is woeful, and a third of our economy relies directly or indirectly on the motor car industry.

Add to that the fact that the solar rebate program here has been recently scrapped and the new left wing government is pursuing further fossil fuel use through clean coal and it is easy to lose hope.

I fail to see why something such as renewable energy use can be so obvious to common citizens as a solution to our energy needs, while the people who "lead" our countries seem to be barely aware it exists.
